Synopsis

Three months earlier, Marine Kit Ryan finds himself back home on leave and dangerously drawn to his best friend Riley’s sister, Jessa—the one girl he can’t have. Exhausted from fighting his feelings, Kit finally gives in, and Jessa isn’t strong enough to resist diving headfirst into a passionate relationship.

But what was just supposed to be a summer romance develops into something far greater than either of them expected. Jessa’s finally found the man of her dreams and Kit’s finally discovered there’s someone he’d sacrifice everything for.

When it’s time for Kit to redeploy, neither one is ready to say goodbye. Jessa vows to wait for him and Kit promises to come home to her. No matter what.

But as Jessa stands waiting for the Marine Chaplain to break her heart, she can’t help but feel that Kit has broken his promise…

Riley or Kit? Kit or Riley? Her brother or her boyfriend? Who’s coming home to her?

To the romantic at heart,

One of the things you should know about me is that I am a big softie for a good angsty romance book! I’m a hopeless romantic and I love love and that sounds cliché but I’ll probably keep saying that, but Come Back To Me satisfied my need for a good angsty romance.

I really liked the idea of this being a book with two military men, Riley and Kit, and how they have something meaningful to come back to. I was so saddened by the fact that it was Riley who didn’t end up coming back at the end because of how he switched posts with Kit who called Jessa on her opening night 😢 All throughout this book I was just mentally preparing myself for the inevitable because I knew from the synopsis that someone wasn’t going to come back alive. I also read the back cover of the book and it said “Stay with me” and I thought maybe the second book would be like a memory thing like with the Me Before You series. But nope it’s another story about another character.

I loved how Kit brought the life out of Jessa and the happiness. They made each other stronger, bolder, and prouder, which is what two people should do for each other. Kit’s dad was hilarious in how he knew Kit and Jessa were sneaking around in his room and in the car. I liked the part where he brought out the backpack and Jessa was sitting in the car trying to put her head down so the dad wouldn’t see her. I also enjoyed how Kit changed his room up and gave Jessa a key to make his room feel like her second home. It was such a big gesture, but it was cute in how he wanted her to feel like his home was her escape, especially from her butt of a dad.

I really DID NOT like that man.

But I’ll admit, Jessa’s dad gets better at the end of the book once he gets therapy and talks to people. I liked when he apologized to Kit at the cemetery for blaming him for stopping him from marrying the love of his life when it was too late—his mom. It really emphasized a change on his part, but before that, I don’t know, some kind of stick was up his rear end. 😅 But good for Jess and Kit when they stood up to him at the growing away party.

When Riley found out about Jessa and Kit through the photos, I could only imagine what it must be have been like to see those types of pictures from your sister. Like gosh! He could have been raging and anger, but surprisingly he took it well. It’s sad that he won’t get to see his baby and the resemblance to him, but I know if Riley was around he would have been a great father like how he was a great brother to his sister.

In the beginning after Riley passed, I didn’t think Kit was being very smart in grieving by himself. All he managed to do was just hurt those around him like Jessa. But I loved how he finally opened up in talking to Jessa. I loved the little tidbit when he taught her how to drive or that part where he got her that acting gig. My favorite part was when he baked! I mean, get you a man who’s buff and can back shirtless, my friends 😉

The ending was very angsty and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was just rooting for them!!! I loved when they accidentally met at the cemetery like fate planned it him/herself and when they confessed their love for each other. I want their wedding scene! I also loved how we got to see past that triumph in their relationship. They both moved to California where they are living out their dreams. Kit owned Riley’s the restaurant—-the name just touched my heart completely—–and Jessa was acting.

What were your thoughts about this book?Favorite part? Least favorite part? What’s the quality you look for in a dream guy? Let me know below in the comments as I love hearing from you all! 💕

I hope you have a wonderful day whenever and wherever you’re reading this!

And as always, with love,

Rating

4.5 Full Bloom Flowers

Characters: Kit and Jessa are the best. Jessa’s dad is very hard to like, but he undergoes some much needed change towards the end of the book. But don’t expect to like him at first, and if you do, then there’s nothing wrong with that either.

Plot: I’ve never read a book with the military part of the plot, so it was refreshingly interesting.

Writing: Simple to read and get into.

Romance: As perfect as any romance could be 💚
