Most Anticipated 2019 Movies

January 1, 2019

Dear movie fanatics,

If you found yourself here, then you must love movies as much as I do. I hardly go to the movie theaters nowadays because that’s what Netflix is for, I’m I right? But I still love going to the movies whenever I can when good new movies come out that I’m just dying to watch.

So I thought I would make a list of all the movies I want to watch this year and at the end of the year, I hope to look back on this list and check off each movie and rate which movies I loved most this year.

So in no particular order here are my most anticipated 2019 movies:

1. Aladdin (Live Action)

Updated: June 8, 2019

Rating: Buttery Popcorn

I absolutely love the timeless ways that Disney can make you feel. This was another hit for Disney this summer and I loved loved loved the movie soooo much! Aladdin has to be one of my favorite Disney animated movies because it’s the only movie where the prince talks a bit more and you get to know the character, so I was nothing but stoked to watch the live action. And it definitely lived up to my expectations and more.

The utter nostalgia I got when singing along and watching every part played out just transported me back to what it was like to be a kid and to be in love with something so fun and laughable. I thought Naomi and Mena did an amazing job as the roles of this movie because gosh only knows that those were big shoes to fill. But even bigger shoes to fill was none other than the genie. Now here’s the thing: I never grew up watching a lot of Will Smith movies or projects, so this was the first time I fully watched his performance and I can thoroughly say that he did Robert Williams proud. He took the genie and made it his own and he made it just as bold, over the top, and just as magical as Robert Williams did. So all those haters on Will Smith, can sit down because I loved the way the genie was presented.

I also loved the little changes made here and there with the movie. I absolutely adored the fact that they gave Princess Jasmine a bigger speaking role and that she had more power as a young female. They really added depth to her character and with the song Speechless, oooh, chills. I also liked the little backstory you get from Aladdin and from the Princess because you never seen that with the animation because there’s only so much they could show. But I loved how you just got to know the characters better and how the story just kept surprising you.

My favorite musical moment was Prince Ali, Part of Your World, and Speechless. It doesn’t get better than the music of a Disney classic. I also was waiting for the part where Jafar turned into a big serpent like in the movie, but I guess they couldn’t do that with the live action, or maybe they wanted to change it up a bit, which is fine, but I was just waiting for it 😅. Also the guy casted as Jafar was spot on down to the teeth ðŸĪŠ I mean not to be rude, but you know how in the animation when Jafar would fake being the old man and he would give a crazed smile, when the Jafar actor would do the same crazed smile, it just reminded me a lot of the animation.

I highly recommend watching Aladdin for those new to the story or those who loved it ever since. Worth every penny.

2. Toy Story 4

Rating: Buttery Popcorn

If you grew up watching Toy Story, this movie will definitely touch your heart. It’s almost like a high school reunion in the sense that you know all the characters and it’s nice to see them and how they’re doing. When I watched this I had my wisdom teeth just taken out, so I don’t recommend watching this movie if you just had your wisdoms taken out because you’re going to want to laugh and cry freely. I can’t tell you how uncomfortable I was sitting in the theater just wanting to laugh and cry at all the good scenes. Forky is annoyingly such a fun character. Like he’s cute, but he’s funny or I liked how he would always jump into the trash can because he likes trash 😂 Or I loved how Woody would just sit by the trash can to fetch him out. But Forky was also highly relatable in how I think as a kid we all have created our own versions of Forky and to us it’s the first thing we have created and it has a lot of meaning and Woody knew that. Woody really is the most loyal toy and friend you’ll have and he has such a big heart that sometimes it makes wrong decisions or hard-headed choices because he’s so loyal.

It’s cute how he got back together with Bo Peep, who might I add just really killed it with the strong female role. She was a fragile, pink, hoarder of sheep in other movies, but in this movie, she kicked butt and she did it WELL. I also liked the Gabby Gabby character if I’m being honest. She was creepy as heck, yes, but I feel like she was just misunderstood and all she wanted was to be that toy for a girl like Woody was for Andy. And in that way I could get why she was so desperate to get Woody’s toy box because she was put on the shelf as a toy that wasn’t worthy of belonging to a kid, which made me sad. There was this moment when Woody was going to turn away and Gabby Gabby was there in the hallway and she gave this whole speech about how she just wanted to be someone’s toy and when Woody heard that he knew he would give up his voice box for her because he knew what it felt like to want to be someone’s toy too. And that part just touched my heart because Woody’s such a good person.

But that moment where that girl dropped Gabby Gabby back into the bin after picking her up, was like a punch to the chest!!! I was broken for Gabby Gabby because here she was with a voice and she could finally speak up so that the girl would notice her, and the girl had the AUDACITY TO PUT HER DOWN. UGH, I wanted to cry. But then Woody told Gabby Gabby to come with him and Bo Peep to go with Andy and she did. But what made me tear up was when Gabby Gabby saw this other little girl crying behind all the carnival booths and Gabby Gabby was drawn to her. And I was like GO TO HER!!!! Then Woody and Bo Peep stopped and saw what Gabby Gabby saw and they knew that’s where she belonged. Gabby Gabby was scared to put herself out there after getting rejected by that other girl, but I loved how she took that chance because here was another little girl scared, a doll that was scared, but a girl and a doll that came together and found comfort. When the girl found Gabby Gabby, I cried despite my wisdom tooth face.

Then the part Woody choses to go with Bo Peep instead of Bonnie was such a momentous and heart breaking moment. The whole movie was about Woody feeling like he was unloved and that’s why he helped Forky and cared for him so much because to Bonnie, Forky was the Woody in a sense and if Woody couldn’t be the main toy for Bonnie, he would darn right make sure Bonnie had toys in her life that were good for her. The whole movie he felt responsible for her happiness and that’s why he couldn’t let himself be with Bo, but then he realized that it was okay to be free and not be that toy since he was always put in the closet and forgotten. Woody leaving was a big step in learning to let go and I loved that for him. It was heart-wrenching to see him say goodbye to the whole gang because they were his family. But GOSH when he was moving away from Buzz and I think it was Buzz who was like “To infinity,” and Woody was like “And beyond” I have NEVER SOBBED SO MUCH!!! I mean what a good line and way to end the movie like that!!! TO infinity and beyond took on a whole new level.

SUCH A GOOD MOVIE and I don’t care who says it wasn’t.

3. Isn’t it Romantic

Updated: February 24, 2019

Rating: Plain popcorn

I watched Isn’t it Romantic in February and it was a decent movie. I loved the satirical plot in how Rebel Wilson’s character got stuck in a romantic comedy. In the beginning her character is a little girl who’s watching a romcom and her mom tells her that girls like her don’t get those kind of stories. So Rebel;s character grows up pessimistic about love, thinking that a girl like her will never find it with anyone or anyone hot for that matter. But I loved the humor and the cheesy running in slow motion part at the end when she tried to stop the wedding. I also loved the Whitney Houston singing because all romcoms need a good musical moment. I also throughly enjoyed the fact that Liam Hemsworth taught me a new word. What a beguiling man ; ) I’ m I right?

4. Captain Marvel

Updated: March 16, 2019

Rating: Furikaki Cheeto Popcorn

I left the moving theater, completely mind blown in the best way!! I honestly, don’t understand why they don’t make more female superhero movies when women are so kick butt and empowering! It’s so EMPOWERING to see a woman stand her own and fight men who they they are better than her. I LOVED this movie. The beginning was kind of slow for me because it was as hazy as “Vree’s” memory—–she had not clear cut memory. And it took me a while to guide out what was going on. But once Vree/Carol landed in America of Planet 52, the movie got so much better. I loved Fury’s role in this movie. To be really honest, I never really cared for Fury’s character in previous Marvel movies because he would just show up on occasion, but in this movie we got to see who he really was and his whole history with creating the Avenger initiative, how he got his eyepatch, and how the Tesaract got to earth. I also liked the father-daughter sort of relationship Carol had with Fury.

The friendship between Maria and Carol in how she helped her remember who she was. I also loved Maria’s daughter, Sergeant trouble? Or something like that. I thought it was cute how she was the one who helped her pick her new uniform.

I also loved the alien father dude who turned out to actually be the good guy. I loved when he finally reunited with his daughter and wife! My heart grew! And I swear he was the funniest character in the movie besides the cat. There was this one part when they were waiting for the disk to load on the computer and it was silent and Carol’s like “What’s happening?” and Fury’s “Like it’s loading.” You can understand the humor in that : ) Or when Maria made a threat to the Kree father man and was like “I’ll kick you where the sun don’t shine.” And he was like, “I’m I supposed to guess.”

The cat was also such an interesting character and a comedic prize. Lots of kids laughed when his octopus legs came out of his mouth. Fury was so entranced by the cat, it was kind of funny but cute. I also found it funny how Fury lost his right eye sight from a cat scratch. Like he survived a car crash from a alien thing and yet his eye was hurt by a cat.

I LIVED for the moment when Carol was in that dream scape thing with Mar-vel and she was trying to fight back. And she was literally glowing!!!! I was screaming for her because she was lighting up like the star she was and she was born! And she was like “I was always fighting with one hand tied behind my back, I wonder what it’s like to fight free,” and she took off that darn chip (which I think limited her power) and burst like a supernova, taking down all of those men! Light of my life!

But can we just talk about that FANTASTIC end when Carol’s flying in space like the shooting star she is and blasts all those bombs back into space and how she zips through the Kree spaceship and destroys it! The Kree man on the ship were shook! Like that is women are all about! Be shook!

But, the best moment was when she stood up to her lying mentor and he was prodding her to prove herself to him and knock him down. And she just blasted him and was like I have nothing to prove to you! Ugh, my favorite! I swear, he deserved worse than to be shipped back to his planet.

Don’t forget to stay for the end credits scene, we can’t wait to see Captain Marvel in end game!

Speaking of Marvel, I found it funny but insightful how the Marvel thing came about and how Mar-vel the doctor scientists, name sounded to be Marvel and spurred this whole Marvel Cinematic universe. We love an overall origin story.

From people I heard, they were kind of disappointed that Carol didn’t have a love story. But I think it wasn’t needed with how Carol was struggling to understand who she was as a person. I’m excited for another movie, THERE BETTER BE ANOTHER MOVIE! I feel like there’s still much to learn about her past and the whole universe and as to why Fury goes dark with his black lab coat and attire. I also think there’s more to learn about the Kree’s and the aliens in finding them a home.

5. Avengers: End Game

Updated: May 4, 2019

Rating: Furikaki Cheeto Popcorn to infinity and beyond

I mean, where do I even start with how much I LOVED this movie!! I can throughly say that this is hands down one of my favorite movies of all time next to The Game Plan and High School Musical. I see a theme here with Disney movies 😅. But I genuinely have never walked out of a theaters so confused as to what I should do with my life afterwards. There was all this energy and emotion inside of me of wanting to cry in tears of happiness or in sadness or confusion. I was just a literal mess in the best way! I have a long review of this movie coming up soon because it had to get it’s own post, of course, so be on the lookout for that, I might link it below one day, but until that day, let me just say how THANKFUL and GRATEFUL and LUCKY I am to be a part of a generation that grew up with amazing superheroes that I can look up to and to be a part of an era where we have great storylines and Marvel movies. I just want to express all my gratitude to the actors, actresses, writers, directors, cast and crew, and the superhero himself, Stan Lee for creating such a world that has given me hope and love and empowerment like no other. I am genuinely sad that Endgame has come with an end of an era for Marvel, but sooooooo sooooo thankful that I could witness such a phenomenal movie of characters that have come so far on their journey and deserve nothing but a good, heroic story.

6. Spiderman: Far from Home

Honestly, Marvel movies keep getting better and better! I was curious as to what the last MCU movie would be for phase 3 (after Endgame) and it was kind of like a good, much needed closure to Endgame and understanding what the world is like without the original Avengers.

Spoilers Contained Below

So I didn’t really know Mysterio was a villain, so when it revealed that he was only playing nice to Peter this whole time to get the E.D.I.T.H sunglasses, I was beyond shocked! I mean, he seemed like such a good guy and it was nice to have a father/male figure in Peter’s life, especially after Tony.

It was also so hard to watch sometimes because all I wanted to do was give Peter a big old hug. He had so much pressure on his shoulders and it was like he’s just a teen. He’s literally been in a big galactic war and he lost so many friends and family and all he wanted to do was spend the summer with the girl he liked, but then he was recruited to stop these Elementals who were all just projections and this evil big bad guy. It ruined his whole trip and plan! And it just hurt my heart because Peter would always fight between duty and his teenage heart—-what he know he should do and what he wanted to do and that’s so hard coming from just a kid. Like everyone, give him a break!

I absolutely loved how we took Peter out of his usual setting on New York and made him travel the world. It really gave me some serious wanderlust 💙 I loved Ned and his girlfriend and I loved the whole Happy and Mae mini plot line and if their in a relationship or not. I would love if they were because how cute would that be. I also loved when Happy met Peter in that place with the poppy fields and they have a good heart to heart about how much pressure is on Peter’s shoulder and how much he misses Stark, but knows he can’t be him. It really just touched my heart and made me cry because I just FELT how much Peter missed him and how much responsibility he felt like he had. What was cute was the moment when Peter got up to make himself a new suit and Happy took a moment to stare at Peter who was in the zone, touching all these gadgets and things like he was looking at a young Tony Stark in the making. I loved that. I loved how Happy was always there for Peter even though their relationship wasn’t always the greatest.

I also loved MJ’s role in this movie and how it was more prominent than before. Their awkward cute love, was just that and I liked how she wielded the the spiky metal ball thing at the end to fight for herself or how Peter and her kissed for the first time on the bridge after he fought. And boy did he fight!

The graphics in this movie was beyond amazing and the whole mystrio sequences with the graphics of the things not really there was so creepy and captivating and I enjoyed it. I also loved how this whole time Aunt Mae would say “use your spidey tingle” as a joke, and how at the end, Peter does use his “spidey tingle” to fight mysterio who’s just some big poser with a fishbowl on his head. I also enjoyed the little tidbit of Peter making his own hammer and shield like Thor and Cap and trying to swing it to take out the drones. It was a nostalgia moment.

I definitely think this movie was better than the first one and Tom Holland did such a great job as always. In press tour interviews, he said he looked bigger on screen, but I thought he looked perfect as he could be for this role and he played it sooo well! He looked great! Also Zendaya looked AMAZING with her looks for the press tour and the red hair, which I LIVED for.
