“Do something you love
Not something because it’ll give you the life that you would love.”

Dear soul searching reader,
So many times I feel like people are always told that they have to do something in life that is a high paying job. Everyone wants their child to be the rich doctor, or the good paying lawyer, or to marry a rich guy or girl. And it’s like what happened to that mentality of doing something you truly love?
I think in a Colleen Hoover book, I once read something that said “Would you do your job for free?” And I remember reading that and just thinking how good of a question that was. If you asked yourself this, would you still do your job for free. If you say no, then you are not doing the job you truly love. If you said yes, you’re right where you need to be. And I think it’s so important to know the answer to this question. If you hesitated and had to think about if you would work for free, then you might not be doing what you love. Because a true love and passion for what you do comes from within and doesn’t need second guessing. It’s automatic. And that’s the kind of love everyone should and needs to have when it comes to work or their goals.
You should not be something so that you can live a wealthy life of riches. You have to be something in life that makes you feel wealthy on the inside and full. Money is only an extrinsic value that you get for working hard and for putting in all the hours and time you do for your work. But it’s not a cure all that will make you happy deep down. You can be a doctor and have a Tesla and have a mansion and have a pool and all these luxury things and you can still be a sad person because you’re not doing the thing you love. You’re leading the life you love. But if you’re a hostess or a teacher who lives in an apartment with a rundown car or without the newest gadgets, and if you’re the happiest person because you love the work that you do, all the luxury things won’t matter because you feel fulfilled inside. That’s what matters most. And sure luxuries are great but they won’t make you happy forever.
So do what you love. Not what’s going to give you a life you believe you’ll love. Be that under paid teacher, be that bus driver, or that fast food worker or that self staring business man or woman. Be what makes you happy. And life will work out in the end.
Here’s to doing what I love,
