December 2018 Quote: Smile

December 26, 2018

“Through all the ups and downs

There will always be a smile amongst a frown.”

-floweringpages

Dear sad soul,

I hope you remember that this pain or sorrow that beats loudly in your chest doesn’t last forever—- that like everything, it’s temporary. You might feel sad and confused or lost and that’s totally fine because we all have our bad days. But don’t let that sorrow overtake you for your whole week or your whole life. Sure, there will be days where you won’t feel like getting out of bed or even brushing your teeth in the morning. There will be days where you feel fine and then break down in tears all of a sudden. There will be days where you just feel like crying for no reason. Just because you don’t feel the best, doesn’t mean you’re weak or that your life will always feel that way. It just means you’re normal.

You’ve reached that point in your life where things have become complicated or you feel mentally, physically, or emotionally drained. And that’s OKAY. It’s okay not to feel okay. I hope that whatever you feel, you just know that things take time and things do get better. It might sound cliché to say “Oh things get better with time,” and it probably is, but I think people say it so much because there’s such a truth to it. And maybe you can’t see how all this pain and misery will get better over time, but I guarantee you that you will look back on that day you broke down or didn’t get out of bed and think about how far you’ve come. And like they always say, if things don’t get better, then it’s not the end.

So cry. Stay in bed. Eat ice cream for a day and take a break for yourself if that’s the release you need. Know that your tears, your pain, or the frown you wear is warranted. But also know that there will be better days coming where you will laugh uncontrollably, where you will feel excited to do something, or where you will smile at the world, thankful for the time you had to heal and rest.

A rainbow always appears after rain and a smile is always there after a frown. I hope you find more happy days in your life than those sad days.

With much love and happiness,
