To All the Releases of 2021

January 6, 2021

To 2021, we’re hoping you’re a better year. I don’t know yet. It’s January first and I can’t tell, but I’m hopeful. Gosh knows when quarantine hit, we all struggled to figure out what to do.

A lot of resorted to either these things: 1) Tik Tok 2) Puzzles 3) Legos 4) Baking banana bread 5) Sleeping 6) Eating 7)Reading 8) Watching TV.

I’m all this and more πŸ˜‚.

But the last one is one we can all relate to: watching TV. I don’t exactly mean cable TV, but you know, just the TV screen. I have cable TV, but nowadays we also like to stream our shows and movies and gosh darn we all know we stare at a TV screen for that.

But because we couldn’t go to the movie theater anymore, we were fortunate enough to have streaming platforms to watch our beloved movies. An I just want to give a big round of a applause for Netflix because when I thought we wouldn’t get any new content, they released the mostest.

Netflix out here deserves the 2020 award for entertainment πŸ‘πŸΌβ™₯️. Because my gosh did they serve us the content baby content.

Also Youtubers and Disney+. I like Youtube and Disney+, so don’t come at me. I’m looking into getting HBO Max, but I have Amazon Prime Video where I subscribed to HBO, so I’m not sure when or if that counts as an HBO subscription. But who knows. I really want to watch what people have been hyping up on there. Streaming services are really a gift. Isn’t technology amazing? I mean, if this happened ten years ago, Netflix was just starting out (I think) and people were really skeptical about Netflix because it didn’t have all the new shows and everything, but look at Netflix now?

It’s THRIVING.

Anyway, there have been favorite movies and TV shows of 2020, which is in my Favorite Lessons and Moments of 2020 blog post that I will link. But this year, I have absolutely no idea what’s being released and in what context.

From what I Googled, these are the things I saw and were excited to see in 2021:

πŸŽ₯ Movies 🎞

Cinderella (the one with Camila Cabello)

(Not a trailer, but some insight of the movie)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Camila Cabello β™₯️.

I love her heart.

I love her kindness.

I love her positivity.

I love her compassion.

I love her voice.

I love her.

She’s a true life Cinderella if there ever was one.

I stan Camila Cabello and I don’t care how many Cinderella remakes have been done, I’m still watching this one because gosh knows Camila sings like a Princess angel from the clouds. And it’s cute how big a fan Camila is with Disney, so I’m happy that she gets to be in a Disney-esque movie.

Raya and the Last Dragon

Cruella

I wouldn’t really say 101 Dalmatians was my favorite Disney movie growing up, but it was a good movie. And who doesn’t like 101 dogs?

And Emma Stone as Cruella?

That was such a good casting πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ. I’m excited to see what she brings to the story.

Peter Pan & Wendy

I liked Peter Pan, but truthfully it was Tinkerbell for me. I’m a fairy gal through and through, but I like Peter Pan, don’t worry.

But I’m excited that they cast Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell because gosh is Yara Shahidi not only beautiful, but she is such a kind and sweet person. I haven’t watched I’ll Give You the Sun yet with her in it, but I heard nothing but good things about Yara as a person β™₯️.

Also, I just love anything Disney, so that’s primarily why I’m going to watch this πŸ˜‚

Black Widow

Again πŸ˜‚

Because this was on last years list πŸ˜‚.

You know, I was hyped about watching Black Widow last year and I’m still hyped about watching it this year! We truly need the Marvel content we never got this year. I swear the last Marvel movie I watched, let alone the last movie I watched was, SpiderMan Homecoming and gosh do I love Tom Holland.

I’m also excited to see David Harbor in Black Widow because I love Hopper from Stranger Things.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings

I haven’t read the comic books and I haven’t heard of this Marvel character. But I think he’s interesting, and I love Marvel.

Honestly a Marvel movie could be about eating McDonalds and I’d find it fascinating πŸ˜‚. Literally slap Marvel on anything and I’m there πŸ˜‚.

But yea, I’m definitely going to watch this!

Also, as a fellow Asian, I like to see that representation πŸ‘πŸΌ.

The Last Letter From Your Lover

Don’t know a lot about what this is about, but when I Googled Netflix movies coming out in 2021, this popped up. The synopsis said something about how this was a movie adaptation of a Jojo Moyes book and gosh knows I LOVE Jojo Moyes, so that’s when I stopped reading the synopsis of the movie, and was like I’m sold. I’m excited. 2021, Jojo Moyes, I’m here for it.

There’s Someone Inside Your House

The Stephanie Perkins book πŸ€”.

I read this a while back, and I will say . . . I didn’t like it πŸ™ˆ. Not because the writing was bad or anything, it just wasn’t for me at the right time. Back then I didn’t read a lot of mystery serial killer books, so this book threw me off guard and I wasn’t a fan of it. But now I read more mystery books, so I’m planning on re-reading this book now to see if my perspective has changed about it. Truthfully, I don’t remember anything about what I read πŸ˜‚.

I love Stephanie Perkins, I just also think I didn’t really enjoy this book as much as her romance novels. I guess I was kind of disappointed because her last three books were contemporary books and I really wanted another contemporary, but we got murder mystery so I wasn’t here for it.

But you know, second chances. We’ll give her a go. And Netflix does amazing with adaptations, so I’ll watch it if it’s not too scary πŸ˜†.

πŸ“Ί TV Shows πŸ“Ί

Basically Anything and Everything Coming to Disney+

Loki

I am a big Loki STAN. When we lost Loki the first time, I cried. I was highly disappointed. And then he came back to life, so I was okay. Then we lost him another time—for good. I cried. Still disappointed.

But hey, now we have a TV show about what happened to Loki when he traveled out of that one scene in Avengers: End Game.

So I’m here for it!

Loki truly is the one that keeps on giving and no matter how hard you try to get rid of him, he keeps coming back πŸ€ͺ. Doesn’t bother me.

I love Loki.

I don’t know, it’s the humor for me, and it’s also just knowing that deeeeep down he would have and can be a good person if he wasn’t so hurt and angry by his past.

And we love Tom Hiddleston β™₯️.

WandaVision

I kid you not, I’m not that over the moon of some Marvel couples, but I am a big fan of Wanda and Vision. And can we just talk about that Avengers Endgame ending? πŸ˜₯

Yea, I’d rather not. I literally screamed in anguish and agony when . . . you know.

So you know, I’m here for how they are back and better than ever and I can’t wait to live in their fantasy world where they are in love. We love love.

Falcon and the Winter Solider

Don’t know much about Falcon or the Winter Solider because gosh knows I haven’t read the comics and did not pay attention to them in the movies (I mean, you have all the Chris’s on the screen and Tom Holland, how do you pay attention to all the actors? Am I right ladies and gents?). Anyway, suffice to say, I was devestated when Captain America turned older.

But I’m excited for a new era.

So I’m eager to watch this and see where it goes. And I like the actors because they’re pretty darn cool, so let’s get it!

New Legacy

I know there’s a lot of controversy about Jeremy Renner, but the only reason I’m excited about Hawkeye is because I ADORE Hailee Steinfield.

Big FAN.

Ms. Marvel

Don’t know a lot about Ms. Marvel, but I like female representation and inclusivity, so I’m excited to watch. I also liked how they chose a young actress as a superhero.

Yes, ma’am.

She-Hulk

I’m not a big fan of the Hulk (no offense), but I do like Mark Ruffalo. I also like female empowerment and representation, so she-hulk it is!

Disenchanted

The Proud Family—Louder and Prouder

(Not a trailer, but what we know of the show so far)

The Proud Family is my kind of family.

Watched them growing up all the time, and I have a distinct memory of watching the Proud Family Movie on this little TV player we used to have. I mean, do you remember the little peanut people? And they go to the island and then that crazy Dr. Carter? OOOOH, that guy creeped me OUT! But he was sooo fun to watch, and that part where he does his whole backstory where he burnt himself to a crisp, that part always SCARED me. Or when his nose or head went on backward. Heebie Jeebies.

But I love the Proud Family and the diversity of people.

So you best bet I’m going to gather my Proud Family Peanuts and sit in front of my TV and binge.

Tiana

We love a hard-working woman. Truly the Disney Princess that was done dirty.

Her movie absolutely did not highlight her that much and I wish it would have. But I’m happy that she’s getting a lime light to showcase her hard work and passion.

Zootopia Plus

The first thing I loved about Zootopia was how big the world was. I thought it was interesting they had all these ecosystems with different animals, and I always hoped for more from Zootopia to explore all these ecosystems.

I don’t know if Zootopia Plus is going to follow Officer Judy Hops or Nick Wild, or other characters, but that would be fun to see other characters. I want to see an episode from Flash’s point of view πŸ˜‚.

Moana

See the light hits the sea where it calls me, no one knooooows, how far it goes!

Probably butchered the lyrics there πŸ˜‚. But we love Moana.

As someone who grew up on the Hawaiian Islands, Moana has a special place in my heart, and no Moana is not Hawaiian, she is Polynesian and those are two different things. But I liked how at least there’s a Disney Princess out there that somewhat represents the range of cultures in the world.

Cars

Were you ever a Cars fan?

I WAS A BIG Cars fan!

I loved me my Tow-Mater and my Lightening McQueen.

I don’t know how old you are, but do you remember on Disney Channel those little shorts they would during commercials or between movies and they would sometimes play these Car shorts. . . Oh! I think it’s called the Tow-mater Shorts or something! πŸ˜† I remember the one where Tow-mater was a matador, when he drove past a bunch of tractors and they fell over, when he was a wrestler, or when he did that canon thing. Loved mater.

I liked how he could drive backwards and then after I watched that I would push my grocery carts backward or walk backwards a lot because I thought I was Tow Mater.

Suffice to say, a Cars show is just my speed.

The Beauty and the Beast Prequel

Beauty and the Beast Prequel with Josh Gab and Luke Evans?

Yes please!

I love their singing.

I love Beauty and the Beast.

And I would love to know why Gaston is so gosh darn self-absorbed πŸ˜‚.

Because there’s got to be a story there.

It truly is the year of reading! And I’m excited πŸ˜†. Honestly, I have never been more excited for a reading year and it just warms my heart to feel excited and in love with reading again this past year. So here’s to this reading year and many more.

And as I was finding all these books, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and love in how we have more diverse authors of gender, identities, cultures, and ethnicities. And that is something to be proud of in how far this book community has come. One of the first Asian authors I read when I was little was Grace Lin and the first Asian YA author I read was Jenny Han. Now to see a plethora of Asian authors warms my heart 😊. And not just the typical Asian like Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans, but also East Asian. I love that πŸ’–. Sandhya Menon was the only person who I knew who was East Asian and was an author. I am so glad to see other voices from cultures come to light. As a Filipino, I am hoping we see more Filipino authors represented πŸ₯°. Also, I am happy for the Latino community as well to have their voices heard. And more LGBTQIA+ stories out in the world. I love diversity and learning from other cultures and experiences. So I’m excited for all these authors and to see where their author journey takes them! I will definitely be supporting them 😊.

Anyway, what are some releases this year you are excited for? Any TV, movie, or book releases I mentioned that you are eager about too? Let me know below in the comments so we can chat! πŸ’–

I hope you have a marvelous and better year. You deserve it.

As always, with love,

Pastel New Sig
